True, but I'd still lend greater credibility to Syd's family rather than a neighbor's childhood memories. |
Childhood and adulthood.....but you are certainly entitled to your opinion.

I'm not sure that would shed much light if it were to happen. Could well be that the other neighbors have chosen to remain quiet so as to preserve RKB's dignity. That they have more respect for the man, as Sore certainly *doesn't* seem to have. |
They also simply may not care. I certainly can't say why they say nothing nor will I assume.

Concerning his being labeled a total 'recluse', I don't really buy that. He seems to have ventured out often enough. |
Since "recluse" has been a term often utilized in his regard I employed it as a common descriptive generalization. Again though...what the other neighbors think or feel I cannot speak to.

No, mental illness is not pretty, and as I said in a previous post I'm not denying Syd suffered from some sort of breakdown, but I'm in NO position to diagnose what it was, what caused it, nor presume that I know to what extent he may have been affected.
I'm all too aware of the repetitive anecdotes, speculation (and gossip) that have tainted Syd/Roger's image since 1968. I'll say it one more time: ad nauseum. Seems that none of these people even stopped to consider that a lot of what was printed/said about him may have caused him pain.
Digressing a little to try to elucidate a point I've been trying to convey ... John Frusciante made the decision to re-emerge into the spotlight following his breakdown, chose what he wanted to share with the public. Syd/Roger did not make the same choice, instead preferring privacy for the rest of his days - whatever his reasons may have been. So is it ethical to divulge starkly disturbing/deviant aspects of his life - true, half-true or not? I think we've heard enough already?
~ Pyper (Not yelling at you) |
I know you're not yelling...nor am I. What people do or don't do will be far out of yours and my control....that's a fact. My opinion of the article is basically...it exists...it may or may not be 100% true...it may be a load of shit...it may be word for word factual. Whatever it is it doesn't alter my opinion of Syd because as I've said...the behavior described did not seem that far-fetched in someone with a mental disorder. As for Sore...I could care less about him or his motives. Anyway...have a nice day...I gotta get back to work.

well, my thing is....not that anyone dare speak of it. Rather, is the story really true?
If it is true, then by all means the guy should be able to tell his story like anyone else. But if he is just trying to profit off a famous name, I hope the Barrett family would have some kind of recourse to prevent him from releasing stories like that.
I honestly don't think he would be saying these things to just be mean. Then again, I didn't think Michael Jackson would molest children either. |
The guy says he explicitly heard Syd scream the name of Roger Waters. That sounds to me like just the sort of thing someone would make up. Even i f Syd did...who's to say he wasn't doing it just to mess with people? Maybe he was fed up with all the fans knocking on the door.
THere's a difference between being mentally ill and being an eccentric who is very pissed off. |

My only comment here will be.....I can sooooooo believe Syd might have had a thing or two to say about Mr. Waters over the years when it comes to the subject of Pink Floyd. Oh baby...I can soooooo believe that part of the story.

People need to realize that Syd's neighbour
was PAID to tell this story.
I'm not sure what his contract
with the tabloid entailed, but knowing
how the tabloids operate,
I'm preety sure embellishment
was not frowned upon, maybe it was encouraged, _________________ There will be wine and drinking in the yard..... |

This may be true. However, if I remember correctly from his myspace site (which I will not visit again out of principle), he implied that the "Genius Next Door" was a watered-down version of events. But since he is still looking to profit, who's to say that he's incapable of embellishing ad infinitum? I think it's just best to ignore this character.
On another note, there was a nice bit in that article--how Syd sent that guy's family beautiful homemade Christmas cards. |

YES! how sad am i that not a day goes by where i don't think about that part??
and wtf is this pondering the significance of RKB smiling at him washing his sex mobile??? what is this nonsense about syd thinking that the guy was watering a plant? this is the kind of thing that i'm sure fed syd's paranoia and/or anger. you've got waters making these technocrat's anthems to syd, who taught him EVERYTHING HE KNOWS, thus sealing syd and roger keith in sort of quick-drying cement for decades and you've got this punk next door writing this kind of nonsense! what in the world kind of karma did roger keith 'syd' barrett have to bring so many lesser mammals feeding off of him and ruining him with this fourth-rate melodramatic blabber? |

Ha ha! That part is completely inane! Maybe he was just wanted to mention his car--and then tried to showcase his imagination. Fails miserably! |

Most insane it is that the neighbour, just like other living
creatures this time really want to make a statue on the
loving ones that passed by... I am sure that shit happens today
in more progression. I remember old times, and for sure I cry
without tears and no wet face at this particular moment. Yes I do.

i've not seen the newspaper article.
if it is a load of made-up crap the remaining barrett's could sue for libel/defamation i suppose.
years ago syd's sisiter said roger barrett would angrily curse roger waters.
maybe the neighbour heard this happen. maybe he only read it. maybe the journalist fed it to the neighbour having read it. _________________ i'm full of dust & guitars
