One of Syd's neighbours has sold his story to the Mail on Sunday...
(Many thanks to Brenda for bringing this to my attention).

If you find the article difficult to read due to the size of the image, the general thrust of the story is how the neighbour would hear Syd howling like an animal and screaming obscenities about Roger Waters. The neighbour goes on to describe Syd's temper tantrums which generally involve smashing windows and breaking furniture.
This article has the worst timing. Syd's family must still be in grief and this article is going to rub salt into the wound. The family have tried so hard to convey to the world a positive image of Syd's mental state and now this.
As Brenda said, at least it wasn't published while Syd was still alive. |

why should that make a difference? as long as the exploiters with their wagging acid tongues and poison pens have their audience of slack jawed, presumptuous, rubbernecking voyeurs who never question the validity, or integrity of the experiences of the legions of poor unfortunate victims of syd barrett's villainy, it's all good! we seek personal testimonies of those annointed by syd's presence!!! if we're very lucky that guy might auction his "syd's bonfire black lung" sputum stained tissues!! oh, joy!
we must persevere! continue to eat up and give credence to every article that illustrates how "crazy" syd was...you know, so we can presume to really "know" syd and continue to be assured that our projected asumptions by way of experiencing the "real" syd, aren't in vein!! (a pun! a pun).
don't you piss on this parade veggie bloke! people need their connections to syd! who are you to take that way from them?
i proclaim that i presume that you're a real joy killer, veggie bloke!

The neighbour could've waited a while before going public with his story. But then it would attract less money of course. Surely, he wasn't doing it just for the money?

Fully agree Vegetable bloke. Why would David Sore lie? He's already paid to write articles. I'd say it's understandable that he may want to air his view of living next door to RKB and he has waited until now to put his experience out in public.
The person that made a major impression on me was in unfortunate decline within a year of me knowing of him. The person that David Sore speaks of does sound like he would be a bit of a pest to live next door to. I think Davids article was balanced. To deny that this was the way it was without knowing is a grasp at the good old days...as we believed them to be. It's unfortunate that Syd was afflicted in this way. |

There you mention something flaming.
"I've been around" said the merry-go-round man.
Roger was a public artist and still is. He and also his
family went trough such a hard job with that matter.
All the publicity. It's not as simple like that.
But proudly Roger's loving ones took care. And still
take care..

No, couldn't be as simple as that. Tho I do believe he must have derived some joy and satisfaction from his fondness for plants, gardens, etc, and his DIY projects.
Some of us simply feel that there's been so much negativity in print, it's only fair to shift focus to some of the more positive aspects of his life as well.

I should say that the information of Syd's neighbour just distends a part of Rogers struggles trough life.. some times. Things happens to human beings anyway. Afther all, it's not so strange. Painfull and sad to know how Roger had to go trough that all alone. But afther all, are'nt we all human beings?
I agree with Piper, also in a lot of silence beauty he enjoyed life, in this ways Roger was a happy man. Let' s not forget that.

Actually I'm rather surprized that some folks find it hard to believe a man with mental problems could behave like that....or get so upset because someone dares speak of it.
